London Diwali Celebrations - Diwali on the square...
It was a Sunday and the place was Trafalgar square what other reason i need to not be there.. So, i did make it to the "Diwali on the Square" organised by the Mayor Of London. Did have to wake up earlier that day to finish all the weekend domestic works (dart those...) since i knew i would not be back home till late night.. Luckily the program starts only in the evening. So on reaching the place at sharp 4 PM when it is to start, thanks to the desi style of Indian Stretchable Time, i got a place quite near to the stage than i expected. The place was still not less crowded that time. It was around 5.30 PM that turned back to see a sea of desis behind me. I had expected to bump on some old friends here but now the chances of it was bleak..
The event started with some classical bits and as it progressed was getting a bit peppy.. Was expecting to eat some savories in some indian stalls as was the case last year.. But could not find one.. Dunno why?? In between for about 30 mins we had 8 or more people giving lectures which the crowd was obviously not very interested. Reminded me of my school days when we used to have cultural events where the chief guest would give a long sermon and all we guys waiting only for him to finish. Since i was close to the stage, the music was also louder for me but was very much bearable in comparison to the reception bands in our weddings. The Nelson Column was illuminated with orange and lavendar colour alternating. The crowd was sure very excited and we had some very exited ones shouting "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and "Bole so nihal.. Satsriakal.." etc.
We had some UK bands performing too. The Hunterz one was very nice and the last item was performed by Raghav - the local boy.. Reached home around 10:30 PM and took refuge into Tesco's Cheese sandwich and crashed..
